The Marvel Cinematic Universe lands an early win for one of its biggest films ever.
The MCU timeline will forever be changed this fall when Earth's Mightiest Heroes come face-to-face with Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr. While the summer season is getting ready for Tom Holland to return as Spider-Man, the marketing has fully kicked off for the next big Avengers story.
Variety reports that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer has landed 503 million views in only 24 hours, making it the second biggest launch in film history, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day still being at #1 with 703 million views. For Disney, the footage for the big team-up entry is also the most viewed trailer of all time, with Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine at #2, as the Super Bowl teaser got 365 million views.
The Avengers: Doomsday ticket sales are also off to a solid start for Marvel Studios, another record in only one day. This is coming only a few days before the big Hall H presentation that is set to take place at San Diego Comic-Con, where Kevin Feige will have various titles featured, along with surprises.
The official Marvel website has only described the panel as follows: "Join Marvel Studios, alongside special guests from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for an exclusive look at what’s next." The big 2026 feature has been seen through banners in San Diego, making it very evident that they will have a presence in some capacity this Saturday.
The Avengers: Doomsday cast will bring the iconic team together with the Fantastic Four, Wakanda, and Fox's X-Men, as they got several major moments in the first trailer. The footage also gave a first proper taste of Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, including a glimpse of his costume and his Latverian accent.
The big reception for the Avengers: Doomsday trailer also makes it clear that, despite a handful of box office challenges over the last few years, the MCU audience is still embracing this franchise. Whether or not it will match or surpass Infinity War and Endgame's gross remains to be seen.
But Doomsday is just the first part of the larger story that Anthony and Joe Russo are telling. Their next upcoming MCU movie is Avengers: Secret Wars, with filming set to start this summer, and will be the final installment of Phase 6 before The Multiverse Saga finishes in December 2027.
Doctor Doom will be back for the Phase 6 finale, along with the leading stars of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. After their upcoming returns in Avengers: Doomsday, Shang-Chi and Black Panther will return in Secret Wars, as Simu Liu and Letitia Wright have confirmed their respective roles in the film.
However, there is still a lot that is unknown about Avengers: Doomsday, as there are many characters that they haven't fully announced yet. Given the multiverse angle, many audience members are expecting to see cameos and returns of Marvel players outside the MCU.
Following Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Disney+ has the upcoming MCU series, VisionQuest, set to premiere on October 14, and will be the last Marvel Studios project before Avengers: Doomsday. Whether or not the WandaVision spinoff has any tie-ins to the December feature is unclear.
Avengers: Doomsday will release in theaters on December 18.
