Jenelle Evans is supporting her son Jace through a difficult time.

The Teen Mom alum, 34, gave a rare update on her 16-year-old son in a new post on her Instagram on Monday, July 20. In her caption, Evans shared that she “will not” give up on Jace, who has been spending time in a mental health facility after allegedly pulling a gun on his grandmother earlier this year.

“And here’s a real update about Jace. From what I choose to share, he’s working on himself and focusing on his emotions,” Evans wrote. “He’s obviously had ups and downs but I’m hoping for the best in his future. Here’s some awesome pictures of his progress.”

“I’ve had countless night of crying over the past 6 months because i want him to be happy and will do whatever it takes to help him mentally and physically,” she continued. “As his mother I WILL NOT give up. 🥹❤️‍🩹 #TeamJace.”

In March, news broke that Jace had entered a mental health facility after allegedly pulling a gun on his grandmother, Barbara Evans. A representative for Jenelle confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly.

At the time, Jenelle was “still trying to find him the best [facility] to meet his needs,” her representative told the outlet. Jenelle’s rep also confirmed that Jace’s grandma called 911 after the teenager allegedly pulled a gun on her. TMZ was first to report the news.

Jace allegedly put a gun to his head and threatened to shoot both himself and Barbara, according to TMZ. Officers responded to a disturbance after Barbara called 911 on Feb. 22, according to a Boiling Springs Lakes Police Department police report obtained by PEOPLE.

After news broke that Jace was in a mental health facility, Barbara filed a motion for emergency child custody and a motion to modify child custody on March 11 for Jace.

Barbara also filed an ex parte order on March 12. An ex parte order is a temporary, emergency order by a judge at the request of one party without notice or participation from the other party.

In April, Janelle gave an update on her son on the La Femme Talk podcast. “Yeah, so I’ll let you know something that I haven’t told anyone. I actually, behind the scenes, you know I’ve been very quiet online,” said Evans.

“And behind the scenes, I’ve been actually getting help for my son as needed, and he’s in a safe place [in a] holistic approach,” she continued. “And he’s very happy right now, and he’s very focused on himself. And I think that’s the most important thing.”

“A lot of people, they think since I’m being so quiet that I might not be doing anything and not taking action. But just know that if I’m quiet, I’m up to something.”

A few weeks later in May, Janelle shared a series of photos on Instagram after spending a weekend with her son. Jace, whom she called her “best friend,” could be seen kayaking with his mom and working with horses as Evans appeared to be visiting him at a “parents weekend.”

She also shared a photo of a piece of notebook paper, which appeared to include parenting advice on how to set boundaries.

“Therapy and kayaking with my best friend. Both working on ourselves at the same time 💓🥹 #ParentsWeekend #MentalHealthAwareness,” Janelle wrote in her caption.
