Jason Sudeikis and Benny Blanco discussed their tipping habits in a candid debate on dining etiquette.

The Ted Lasso star, 50, appeared on Blanco's Friends Keep Secrets podcast where he argued that leaving a 10 percent tip for bad service makes the diner look like an 'a**hole.'

The debate kicked off with record producer Blanco, 38, noting: 'When you're tipping at a restaurant, it's an interesting world to be in,' prompting Sudeikis to quip, 'How do you do the math for 12 percent?'

Blanco's co-host Kristin Batalucco said she is 'too scared' to leave anything below 20 percent while her husband and co-host Lil Dicky revealed Blanco calls him out for tipping a standard 20 percent. 

'Instead of what?' Sudeikis asked, to which the rapper replied, '30 percent, 35 percent.'

Selena Gomez's husband then explained he only wants to know how much someone is tipping when they are footing the bill, though Sudeikis pointed out that line of thinking only makes people 'more anxious.' 

The Golden Globe winner went on to share his view on poor service, insisting that unless a diner speaks to the waiter directly or leaves a note, a low tip just makes them look like an 'a**hole.' 

'I don't think it teaches anything, tipping poorly,' Sudeikis explained. 

'Because if someone is not good, like a waiter or waitress at a diner type place, and they're just brusque and not checked in, and you wanted to be there for 45 minutes, but you were there for an hour and a half because they were just not there. But if you only tipped 10 percent, they're only going to walk away from there going, "What an a**hole."

'Versus if you're going to tip 10 percent, I think you got to give a note saying: "I normally tip more, but you were so..." or say it to them.'

Some fans were frustrated by the conversation, stating that rich stars should not complain about tipping.

'I agree on some points, but millionaires (from Hollywood… not actual business entrepreneurs) talking about tipping culture is not a good look,' one wrote.

'There is probably close to $100m in that room and they upset about tipping. Goes to show how wild everything has gotten.'

Though others agreed that tipping has gotten out of hand, with one writing, 'Tipping culture in the U.S. is ABSURD. Change it to 1%.'

'It's definitely gotten ridiculous. Carrying expensive food is the exact same work as carrying cheap food, yet they expect to be paid more for it. Carrying food from a kitchen to a table, and then dishes from a table to a kitchen isn't worth $100/hr,' another added. 

Although the concept of generous tipping is considered somewhat alien outside the US, for American diners, it's a necessity.

Tipping habits have long been a touchy subject for stars, who often end up going viral for leaving an eye-watering tip or a notoriously stingy one.

In 2023, an anonymous Reddit user who claimed they have been serving for nearly two decades took to the forum to reveal rapper Post Malone was 'a wonderful person and a great tipper.'

They attached a photo of a receipt from the rapper which appeared to show he had tipped them $3,000.

The Redditor, so inspired by the singer's generosity, added: 'Such a genuine and cool dude. This begs the question. Which celebrities have you served that were really generous? Any surprisingly cheap celebrities?'

In response, people revealed the best (and worst) celebrity tippers on the Server Life sub-Reddit - while many agreed Post Malone was the most generous tipper they had ever encountered.

One person wrote: 'I was working at a place that did a pooled house. Post Malone came in with a group, and we all made rent that night. Thanks Posty!' 

Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher proved he's a generous tipper when he was spotted casually slipping a valet worker a $100 bill in 2024.

And in 2020, a former New York City restaurant hostess who has worked in some of Manhattan's trendiest eateries shared her candid thoughts on celebrities she has encountered.

Julia Carolan, 23, claimed that while 'working as a hostess in a fancy Manhattan restaurant,' she came face-to-face with plenty of stars — and while Gigi and Bella Hadid were 'so nice' and 'super polite and friendly', Kylie Jenner was a shockingly cheap tipper.

Meanwhile Hailey Bieber scored even worse, rating just 3.5/10 based on multiple encounters.
