How long has Cole Van Lanen been with the Jaguars?
Van Lanen was initially selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he was placed on the practice squad that season. He appeared in just one game before being traded to the Jaguars in 2022.
Recapping Cole Van Lanen's 2025 season
For his first few seasons in Jacksonville, Van Lanen largely remained on the bench until 2025, when he had a breakout season. He appeared in 16 games throughout the season, but became a starter in December, when starting left tackle Walker Little got injured. And Van Lanen didn't let the opportunity go to waste -- while Little had struggled throughout the season, Van Lanen didn't allow a single sack in his five games as a starter at left tackle.
Throughout the season overall, he allowed just one sack and 22 pressures. He also has appeared at every position on the offensive line except center, and proven he can be capable at them all.
The Jaguars signed Van Lanen to a contract extension in early January, but his season unfortunately ended in Week 18, when he suffered a knee injury.
Looking ahead to 2026 for Cole Van Lanen
While in theory, Little could earn back his starting role at left tackle, it's assumed that Van Lanen will get the job. However, we do not yet know when Van Lanen will be back on the field. He did not practice during offseason programs, still rehabbing his knee. Once he returns, Van Lanen will need to build on his breakout year, playing one of the most important positions in football.
