Future Hall of Famer LeBron James is currently a free agent for the fourth time in his lengthy NBA career. His three previous stints, however, saw him make his decision much sooner.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently said he "needs" James to make a decision in order to sort out the league's 2026-27 schedule, as the four-time NBA MVP's location greatly impacts nationally televised games.
A source familiar with James' camp told Andy Baskin of 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland that this news "irritated" James. The 2003 No. 1 overall pick is still deciding between the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Baskin's source said Silver's comment led the James camp to delay the announcement of his decision, even though they appeared ready to make it last week.
In a recent appearance on CNBC, Silver said, "Where LeBron plays will affect the schedule. I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the [NBA's 2026-27] schedule, because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule.
"But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, et cetera. So, I need him to make a decision."
James has played in more Christmas games than anyone in NBA history.
James addressed his future at Fanatics Fest over the weekend. "We don't have an announcement to make just yet, guys," he told cheering fans.
Rich Paul, James's longtime agent at Klutch Sports, argued on a recent appearance on his podcast that if James were to join the Warriors, the NBA may give them 60 nationally televised games (thereby supporting Silver's original point).
"The NBA would have to give them 60 nationally televised games... I'm being sarcastic, but at least half, if not more," Paul told co-host Max Kellerman.

"Steph, Klay, and Dray, and when it was still Lebron, Kyrie, K-Love, between those two teams, they might have had 30 each nationally televised games.
"I might be wrong, but we should look it up. You also would have to have two different hotels. You'd have to have a fugazi hotel to park all of the buses in front of... because they won't get any rest."
James spent the last eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, joining as a free agent in 2018. Before that, he returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent in 2014, four years after joining the Miami Heat in 2010.
