What did the IMF say about approving the loan

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a new $690 million loan disbursement for Ukraine.

According to the statement, the Board completed its review of Ukraine's four-year financing arrangement, enabling the immediate release of the funds.

"Ukraine’s performance under the program has been broadly satisfactory. All end-March quantitative performance criteria were met, although implementation of some structural reforms has been delayed," the statement said.

The IMF added that the Ukrainian authorities had agreed on corrective measures and revised the timelines for key reforms, reaffirming their commitment to achieving fiscal policy, governance, anti-corruption, energy sector, and financial sector objectives.

The statement also noted that, with the latest disbursement, total IMF payments to Ukraine under the program will reach $2.2 billion.

In addition, the Executive Board concluded the 2026 Article IV Consultation, which focused on policies aimed at preserving macroeconomic stability during the war while supporting Ukraine's transition to a dynamic market economy aligned with its European Union accession goals.

Ukraine and the IMF

Earlier, Ukraine's newly appointed Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced that the IMF was expected to approve a $290 million loan on Monday. He made the statement after speaking with IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that IMF experts believe Ukraine could become one of Europe's fastest-growing economies over the next five years. However, that forecast is based on a scenario involving large-scale reconstruction of the country.
