Earlier this summer, boutique underwear brand Embrace offered to send me one of its newly launched lounge bras to try. As a round-the-clock bra wearer who hates underwire, yet craves the type of support they offer, I was ready to put the Embrace bra up against my picky sensibilities. Fast forward to delivery day, it took me a total of 25 minutes of wear time to open up my laptop and purchase two more with my own hard-earned cash.
The first and most obvious selling point was how comfortable this bra felt. Much like you throw on that favorite washed-to-softness baggy T-shirt, this bra imparted that same feeling, to the point where I often forget I’m wearing it.
The wireless underband is soft and never feels as if it’s digging into my ribs like some high-support sports bra styles I own, yet it still keeps me feeling very lifted. I don’t have the largest bust in the world, but as someone who has quite a lot of sensory issues, I’ve always despised the feeling of my boobs just hanging out without any kind of compression or support and the Embrace bra offers the perfect middlegound.
I can also confirm that I never have to adjust or tug at this bra, as it never rides up throughout the day, nor when I’m sleeping (yes, I like to sleep in bras), which I consider to be an impressive feat all on its own, considering that I move around quite a lot in my sleep.
Made from a plant-based Austrian modal fabric, the bra’s material truly gets a round of applause because, as the brand states, it’s “inexplicably soft,” “lightweight,” and “breathable.” So breathable in fact, it rarely feels suffocating or imposing in the heat of Southern California, where I live.
And though it will really depend on the person, I believe the Embrace bra has just the right amount of coverage, so if I want to wear lower-cut tops with it, I can, but I also don’t feel like I’m spilling over. It also features adjustable straps that can be secured in the back to make a racerback for even more lift and the cups have removable pads that I choose to keep in because, unlike the removable padding situations that I’ve found in other bras, they actually do stay in place.
When it comes to picking out the right sizes for you, Embrace offers flexible sizing in between XS-XL, which you can size up or down, depending on how much coverage you prefer. I’m typically between cup sizes (a full B, but barely a C), and 32 around, so you can imagine how much of a challenge it is for me to find bras that fit properly, but I went with a size small in the Embrace and it fits perfectly.
Currently, the brand only fits A through C cups, but it’s working on more inclusive options that will suit cups D through F. Just use the featured size guide to help determine which size category you fall in based on your existing band and cup size — it was very accurate for me.
I was initially sent the navy color and, as I mentioned earlier, wasted no time buying it in the other ways, camel and black. After perusing some of the reviews from other Embrace customers, I learned that I wasn’t the only one who was going back to order the entire lineup.
