I spent time with the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the cover display is finally worth using

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 isn’t getting as much attention this year from Samsung, which is going to lead some people to believe the rumors that this is their last flip-style fold, but we’ll have to wait and see if that ends up being true. This is, however, Samsung’s thinnest flip yet, at 6.1mm. That’s still quite thick, when compared to the fold, which is now 4.1mm.

Interestingly, Samsung is comparing it to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and now the Galaxy Z Flip 7 that launched last year. It’s still a tad thinner than last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the best part is that it is using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy worldwide. This means that every Samsung device announced today runs on Qualcomm.

All apps now work on the Cover Display

Samsung has finally conceded that Motorola’s use of its cover display is better than what the Galaxy Z Flip was doing. As you can now run any app on that Cover Display, but you do still need to install MultiStar to get this going. So it’s still not quite as straightforward as what Motorola does on the Razr devices. But this is a step in the right direction.

Samsung actually went a step further by adding a button on the screen to change the aspect ratio. So you can use the usual 18:9 aspect ratio, or make it full screen, or cut it off above the cameras. This actually works really well, instead of what Motorola does, where you are essentially guessing where to press and hold to change the layout.

The Now Brief is also now on the Flex Window, aka the Cover Display. Which is now more personal and gives you even more info. Samsung is really showing us that you don’t need to open your Flip 8 to use it. A drastic change from what they were offering previously.
