Linda Hamilton has always been associated with action, and few have left a mark among fans like her character as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). 35 years later, she was ready to dust off Connor’s gear for Terminator: Dark Fate (2019).
During an episode of The Graham Norton Show, Hamilton shared her “one-year comprehensive performance program” that readied her for the action-packed role.
“I worked out, leaned out, worked for a year, didn’t have carbohydrates for a year,” she admitted, much to everyone’s surprise.
While she followed this workout regimen for the first three months of her program, the next nine months looked vastly different. She then moved on to functional training to prepare her for the role of Sarah Connor.
Her workouts are now focused on footwork- short sprints, combat training, and agility drills. She trained intensely, refusing to allow a stunt double to take her place.
As per Women’s Health, Hamilton, at age 63, was working out three hours a day, six days a week, making remarkable progress.
Of course, simply following a strict workout routine was not enough to ready her for the role. Besides training, she also focused on a nutritious meal plan to fuel her training.
What Linda Hamilton ate for an action-packed role in Terminator: Dark Fate
Hamilton took her transformation very seriously, relying on prescriptive meals that were specifically home-delivered twice a week.
The medically approved meals contained nutritional supplements that would help her burn body fat and retain lean mass.
In addition, she was monitored by DXA scans every six weeks to track her progress.
Hamilton’s typical meal plan, as per Deadline, included:
Breakfast: Egg whites, vegetables, avocado omelet, fresh berries, ground turkey breast scramble, low-fat Greek yogurt, and oatmeal or Ezekiel toast.
Lunch and dinner: Fatty fish like tuna or salmon, along with healthy fats like avocado, nut butter, and olive oil. She also had her fair share of unlimited starch vegetables. Protein was crucial – she opted for 6 oz of protein with each meal.
This could be in the form of grilled, baked, broiled, blackened, roasted, steamed, or boiled lean protein. Brown rice and roasted or grilled vegetables were added to make it a wholesome meal.
Hamilton did not just make a comeback; her transformation and dedication were as inspiring as her original rise. Which performance did you prefer- the iconic Terminator 2 or her powerful comeback in Dark Fate?
