The way that it's going in current and recent classes, the 2023 recruiting class may be the final time in awhile that the Oregon Ducks struck out on top-end, five-star talent that they managed to bring to Eugene.
Wide receiver Jurrion Dickey was the lone five-star commit in the class, a group that includes edge Matayo Uiagalelei, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, defensive tackle A'Mauri Washington and several other high-level performers.
Dickey burnt out rather quickly during his time at Oregon, recording just one catch for seven yards in both 2023 and 2024 before being kicked off the team prior to last season. He spent the year with Diablo Valley College, and remains unsigned with less than two months before the 2026 campaign.
As a result, Dickey received an "In Question" verdict in CBS Sports' regrade of all 32 five-stars in the 2023 recruiting class.
"Across two seasons in Eugene, Dickey recorded a total of 74 offensive snaps, accounting for just two receptions for 14 yards in his brief stint with the Ducks," CBS Sports' Cooper Petagna wrote. "Although injuries led to a redshirt as a true freshman, it was a series of off-the-field issues that ultimately pushed Oregon head coach Dan Lanning to move on from the former five-star after just two years in the program. Now at Diablo Valley Junior College, Dickey finds himself in the depths of college football's abyss."
While Dickey was a lost cause at Oregon, the Ducks picked up a high-profile former five-star recruit in the 2023 class via the transfer portal soon after his true freshman season. Of course, that player is quarterback Dante Moore, who struggled mightily during his debut season at UCLA before quickly landing in Eugene.
The 6-foot-3 passer sat behind veteran Dillon Gabriel in Year 2 before taking the reigns last year, leading the Ducks to the College Football Playoff Semifinal and putting himself in the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, though he opted to return for another year of college ball.
Moore's verdict: Meeting expectations.
With a big second year for Moore as the starter for the Ducks, which could include bringing the program's first national title back to Eugene, he would firmly cement himself far above expectations, even as a five-star and the No. 3 passer in the 2023 class.
