Warning: The following contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5, and Fire & Blood
Episode 5 of House of the Dragon is pretty Team Green-heavy, and I'm not mad about it. Overall, this season feels more balanced in its depictions of both sides, which is closer to how they're portrayed in Fire & Blood. Neither Targaryen faction is that great.
In Season 3's fifth episode, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) continues her descent into bona fide paranoia, while Gwayne (Freddie Fox) learns Cole's (Fabien Frankel) true objective: to barrel headfirst into death. Cole doesn't plan to emerge from the Dance of the Dragons alive, and he's taking his army with him. Daemon (Matt Smith) stumbles upon the disemboweled bodies of Luthor Largent (Tom Cullen) and the gold cloaks, courtesy of Ormund (James Norton), whose plan to install Daeron (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as king of the realm is now known to Rhaenyra.
As we wait impatiently for the next chapter, here are six predictions for House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6:
Daemon Will Head to Tumbleton (He's Got Ormund on the Brain)
Listen, bro, you're not that special—we all have James Norton on the brain. Daemon won't take the murders of his precious gold cloaks lying down, and if there's one thing he loves, it's doing the opposite of what Rhaenyra commands. Whether he actually squares off against Ormund is another story, but I predict he'll try. At the very least, he'll retaliate by slaying some of Ormund's guard to weaken the latter's protection.
Rhaenyra Will Learn that Helaena Is Pregnant
At the end of Episode 5, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Helaena (Phia Saban) are trapped in the tunnel attached to their chambers. I'm certain they won't remain there long; someone will notice they've gone missing. Perhaps Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) will free them, knowing that Alicent is important to Rhaenyra as a political prisoner. However, Rhaenyra will inevitably learn of Helaena's pregnancy and that Mysaria withheld this information from her. *Extremely Scooby-Doo voice* Ruh-roh, Raggy—the Mistress of Whispers might be in trouble.
The Seeds Will Be Planted for Aegon's Trek to Dragonstone
Larys (Matthew Needham) and Tyland (Jefferson Hall) can't decide on where to secrete Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) until the dust from the Dance settles. However, Fire & Blood readers know he eventually heads to Dragonstone. Essos is clearly too far away; it's out of the question. Casterly Rock might put too much attention on the Lannisters. Why not make a beeline for Aegon's ancestral seat? I hear there's a vacancy.
Aemond Will Reunite With Vhagar
You can't keep a boy away from his weapon of mass destruction for long. Vhagar leaving of her own volition is to remind us that humans, even Targaryens, cannot control dragons. Dragons are gonna dragon. Well, unless Alys (Gayle Rankin) was using her magic to conceal Vhagar within Harrenhal's House of Horrors. Regardless, she and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) will reunite.
Gwayne Will Also Go to Tumbleton
Gwayne abandons Crispy Cole at the end of Episode 5, seemingly to help Ormund in Tumbleton. I hope so. I want at least one scene with Gwayne and Daeron, so Daeron can relax for a spell. It's not easy walking on egg shells around the Dennis Reynolds of Westeros. While I don't think Gwayne is long for this world (unfortunately), I predict he'll contribute to the war effort in Tumbleton.
We're Finally Getting the Butcher's Ball
Speaking of characters who aren't long for this world, Cole will meet the Stranger in House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6. It's all been building up to the Butcher's Ball. Cole wants to die, and Roddy (Tommy Flanagan) tells Oscar (Archie Barnes) in Episode 5 that he and his Winter Wolves can hunt Crispy down. The foreshadowing this season has been through the roof. However, since there's no Ser Pate of Longleaf in the show, I think his badass line about Cole's death will go to Roddy: "I'll have no songs about how brave you died, Kingmaker. There's tens o' thousands dead on your account."
