Home Depot theft investigation leads to two arrests and felony DWI charges in Cortlandt

Two were ssued appearance tickets, and the driver was remanded to the Westchester County Jail, according to NYSP.

CORTANDT, NY — A petty theft led directly to felony drunken driving charges, according to police.

On Tuesday, at 12:31 p.m., New York State Police in Cortlandt responded to a reported larceny at the Home Depot on Main Street.

At the scene, Home Depot Loss Prevention told troopers that three men involved had left the store and were traveling westbound toward Peekskill.

Troopers canvassed the area and located three men matching the descriptions provided on Bank Street in Peekskill.

Investigators said Christopher Caguana-Uzho, 19, of Peekskill and Santiago J. Quinatoa Osorio, 24, of Cortlandt Manor attempted to steal more than $500 worth of merchandise from the store.

During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Jonathan Maldonado, 27, of Peekskill, exhibited signs of intoxication., according to troopers. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, after which he was taken into custody and transported to State Police Cortlandt for processing. Maldonado later submitted to a chemical breath test, which yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.35 percent, according to police.

Caguana-Uzho and Quinatoa Osorio were each arrested and charged with petit larceny. Both were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Cortlandt Court on August 24.

Maldonado was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated (three prior convictions), felony driving while intoxicated (three prior convictions) and felony aggravated unlicensed operation . He was arraigned in the Village of Buchanan Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail.
