This offseason, former Clemson star Tajh Boyd has been promoted to Quarterbacks coach, entering his sixth season on Clemson’s staff. Boyd was hired as an offensive assistant in 2021 and was promoted to assistant Quarterbacks coach in 2024. Boyd famously said he had no interest in coaching following his playing career, but Dabo pushed to get him into the building. When asked about his persistence in seeking out Boyd, Swinney compared it to his journey after football:
“A lot of the same reasons that (former Alabama Head Coach) Gene Stallings wanted me to get into coaching. As a coach, sometimes you see things in people they don't see in themselves. Sometimes it takes just one person to believe in you for you to believe in yourself…He's just a full-blown football junkie now. He's just completely bought into being a great coach….Tajh is gonna be a head coach. There's no doubt. He's gonna be a head coach, he's got all the tools, he’s got everything you need to be a great head football coach, and he's really equipping himself through his journey.”
There’s nothing more important to this season for Clemson than quarterback development. Hopefully, before he begins his Head Coaching career, Boyd can turn Vizzina and Tait Reynolds into quality starting signal callers and help Clemson replicate some of the success he was able to find during his playing tenure as a Tiger.
If he is able to do so? Well, Clemson football will be scary for opponents once again.
