The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in Western Washington, in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the advisory issued Monday morning, the week’s hottest conditions will reach 88 to 95 degrees, and low temperatures from 60 to 65 degrees. The heat will “significantly increase” the risk of heat-related illnesses.
A detailed forecast shows that Tuesday afternoon will be partly sunny for portions of the Tacoma area, with a high of around 88 to 91 degrees. Later that night, the temperature will drop to a low of 65 degrees, before picking back up to 92 to 93 degrees on Wednesday. The hottest temperatures will reach 95 and 96 degrees respectively for South Tacoma near Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Puyallup areas.
“We have some high pressure building over the area, with some clouds at times. Essentially, the air is coming from the south, so it’s warmer,” said Anna Lindeman, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service Seattle. “What that’s going to do is that we’re going to see an injection of warmer air through the first half of this week.”
The rest of the week will even out, with a high reaching 78 degrees on Saturday. Lindeman expected some light showers on Thursday.
The National Weather Service advises residents to take “extra precautions if you work or spend time outside” and recommends those who work outside to seek shade during breaks. Further, NWS states that areas near bodies of water will experience cooler temperatures.
