The Harry Potter franchise has seen several fairly excellent games, ranging from the recent Hogwarts Legacy to the classics from the early 2000s. Of course, the majority of them, bar a few of the more movie-centric tie-ins, are genuinely excellent and do a decent job of invoking the spirit of the books and films that we've come to know and love. Indeed, whether it's the visuals, soundtrack, or, more rarely, gameplay, the majority of Harry Potter games prove they understood the assignment.
However, the very best Harry Potter game stands out above the rest not only because of its undeniable charm, but also because it truly captures the vibe, tone, and spirit of the books better than any other game in the series. This Harry Potter game is truly excellent and one every fan should play. Unfortunately, if you did want to play this legendary Harry Potter game for yourself, then you're going to have to jump through a few hoops, as there's a major catch.
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone On PC Is Amazing
It Is An Underrated Classic
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a bona fide classic, and for good reason. Of course, there are numerous versions, and everyone has their favorite, but I grew up playing the PC one and found it to be an exceptional experience. Everything from Jeremy Soule's phenomenally magical soundtrack to the detailed recreation of Hogwarts - as a kid, it was the closest I could get to exploring the school's hallowed halls - is utterly delightful and very of its time.
That being said, there is a lot that Sorcerer's Stone gets right that the later games, especiallyHogwarts Legacy, get wrong. Its stylized visuals are in keeping with the books' original cover art, which makes it still look visually impressive even by today's standards. Additionally, it better implemented exploration and lessons than the majority of other Harry Potter video games, which makes it one of the defining fantasy school sims. Unfortunately, despite being an incredible experience, it's almost impossible to play it.
You Probably Can't Play Harry Potter's Best Game
It Isn't Available To Buy Anymore
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, at least on PC, is not available anywhere. You can't buy it on any digital storefronts, and physical copies, while occasionally available, are practically defunct thanks to the phasing out of disc drives - how I miss integrated disc drives in laptops. Of course, there are means of getting it, although I won't be encouraging them or advising on how to do it. Alas, this means that Sorcerer's Stone is another lost Harry Potter game destined to remain a foggy memory of mine.
I sincerely hope that, one day, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on PC is resurrected. For now, there's the comparable, yet different, PS1 version that you can still buy physically, at least. It is an expensive and inconvenient way of playing it, and it won't be quite the same for those, like me, accustomed to the PC version, but at least the best Harry Potter game is preserved through physical media, the best form of all media.
