Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (a.k.a. Philosopher’s Stone) is coming back to theaters for a limited time, and this edition includes 12 minutes of never-before-seen bonus footage.
The first installment in the magical film franchise — which turned Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint into global stars — premiered in November 2001, and to celebrate its 25th anniversary, Warner Bros. has announced a week of screenings and global fan events.
The Chris Columbus-directed film isn’t the only one you can watch on the big screen again; all eight films in the franchise will be rereleased in theaters worldwide from Aug. 27 to Sept. 3, but only the first one will feature bonus footage.
Tickets for all screenings go on sale July 31 (yes, that’s Harry’s birthday).
The film screenings are part of the franchise’s “Back to Hogwarts” events, which celebrate the day students return to the fictional school in the fantasy series, Sept. 1.
Interactive fan events, including a celebratory screening and a mass wand lesson, will take place in cities such as Paris, Venice, Madrid, and Sydney. The theme parks that host the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will also feature special experiences.
Meanwhile, HBO is gearing up to actually return to Hogwarts. The network is releasing the first season of its series adaptation of Harry Potter on Christmas Day, which will stream globally on HBO Max. To celebrate the new series, it will lead a fan event in London, with details to be announced soon.
Digitally, look out for more announcements and surprises on the official Harry Potter YouTube and TikTok accounts on Sept. 1.
The Harry Potter film franchise, which began in 2001 and ended with 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, earned a total of $7.7 billion at the box office.
