Garrison Brothers is bringing back its rarest and most sought-after whiskey.
The Texas distillery announced Wednesday that Hye Rye Bourbon Whiskey will return through the company’s first limited-release pre-sale, giving bourbon enthusiasts the opportunity to reserve bottles more than two years before they’re ready.
The pre-sale will run from July 27 through Aug. 10, with customers able to purchase up to four bottles for $99.99 each. The catch? Buyers won’t be able to pick up their whiskey until October 2028 at Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas.
Originally released in December 2020, Hye Rye was so limited that is unquestionably the most elusive expression in Garrison Brothers history. The inaugural release yielded just 1,000 bottles, available exclusively at the distillery.
The whiskey traces its origins back to 2012, when Master Distiller Donnis Todd developed a high-rye mash bill using Texas-grown grain. Rather than releasing it after just a few years, Todd allowed the whiskey to mature for seven years, believing it needed additional time to develop its full character.
Hye Rye was, and to this day still is, the only whiskey Garrison Brothers has ever released made with a mashbill outside of its standard wheated bourbon recipe.
“When we filled the first Hye Rye barrels, I had no idea it would become one of the most talked-about bourbons we’ve ever made,” Todd said in a news release. “Bringing Hye Rye back means so much to me. It’s the continuation of a story that’s been years in the making.”
Expected to be bottled at 98 proof, Hye Rye is distilled from a mashbill of 52% South Texas corn, 37% organic rye and 11% barley. The unusually high rye content gives the bourbon a spicier, pepper-forward profile than traditional bourbon recipes.
The style of release also marks a first for Garrison Brothers. Rather than selling bottles upon release, the distillery is effectively allowing consumers to reserve inventory years in advance, ensuring those who secure bottles won’t have to compete on release day.
All bottles must be picked up in person at the distillery within 90 days of notification. The company said the release date and pickup celebrations will be announced closer to the planned October 2028 launch.
