Know thine enemy: Covering the Corner

After getting back to .500 for the first time since April, the Twins dropped the last two games to the Cubs and now the first of a four game set against the Guardians. Abandon all hope etc etc. Today’s match is a battle of lefty starters Kendry Rojas and Parker Messick.

Messick features an excellent 4-seam fastball, a sinker he throws mainly against lefties, a changeup, curveball, cutter, and slider. That arsenal has carried him to an 8-5 record with a 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP this season.

For Rojas, it will be his 3rd career start, as he’s mostly been used out of the bullpen. He has shown swing-and-miss stuff, but also a tendency to walk a lot of batters, as he’s struck out 22 and walked 16 in 19.1 IP.
