When Samsung introduced the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year, its Privacy Display stood out as one of its most innovative features. By altering light angles at the pixel level, the screen effectively blocks off-angle onlookers from viewing sensitive content. However, early implementations had a frustrating quirk: enabling the guard for a specific app meant the entire display switched into privacy mode, even if you minimized the video into a small picture-in-picture (PiP) window on your home screen.
Well, Samsung is officially fixing that awkward behavior with its latest software release. As reported by tech tipster Ice Universe on X, the One UI 9 Beta 4 update is introducing granular control for floating media players.
Isolated protection for floating windows
With the latest One UI 9 beta update, if you set Privacy Display protection specifically for an app like YouTube, minimizing a clip to your home screen restricts the visual filter exclusively to the tiny floating PiP box.
The rest of your display—including your app icons, wallpaper, and secondary open apps—remains completely clear, bright, and unaffected for wide-angle viewing.
Ice Universe’s demo videos show that users can drag the protected PiP box anywhere across the UI while the privacy layer continuously tracks and obscures only the moving video rectangle. To use this targeted feature, you must assign Privacy Display on an app-by-app basis in your system settings rather than toggling global privacy for the entire panel.
Polishing specialized hardware
Off-angle display filtering isn’t completely impenetrable. However, this targeted approach shows how thoughtful software updates can significantly improve hardware utility. Isolating media windows prevents users from having to compromise contrast and viewing angles across their entire screen just to keep a floating video private in public spaces.
The Beta 4 build (ending in build number BZG4) is currently circulating among enrolled testing participants via the Samsung Members app.
