Actress Lauren Tom is asking fans for prayers after revealing that her daughter, Ellie, has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. The Friends alum, 64, shared the news on Sunday in an emotional Instagram post featuring photos of her 25-year-old daughter, saying her family is doing “everything we can” to support her recovery. “We have a long journey ahead of us,” Tom wrote, while thanking friends, family, and the doctors and nurses at Cedars-Sinai for what she called their “boundless support, love, and care.” The actress also asked followers to pray for Ellie and leave messages of encouragement on her social media pages, describing her as “an amazing, deep, sensitive, wise, strong, brave, intelligent, and funny soul.” Tom, who played Ross’ girlfriend Julie in eight episodes of Friends and also starred in The Joy Luck Club, did not share details about Ellie’s prognosis. According to the Cleveland Clinic, osteosarcoma most commonly develops in the arms or legs and is typically treated with surgery and chemotherapy. Tom has been married to actor Curt Kaplan since October 1999.
