The president “does need to get this over with,” said the chief political analyst.

Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume on Monday said Donald Trump has found himself “in kind of a tough spot” over the Iran war, arguing it could leave the president increasingly “vulnerable” ahead of the 2026 midterm elections and that one critical factor ― time ― is running out for the president to turn public opinion around.

During a discussion about the renewed U.S. bombing campaign following the collapse of the ceasefire, “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier played clips of Democrats criticizing the conflict, saying there was “no plan” and “no endgame” nor concern about the cost to U.S. taxpayers.

Baier then asked Hume for his political assessment of that criticism and how much weight it could carry as the November elections approach.

Hume said it highlighted a key challenge facing Trump.

Namely, that while his military objectives in Iran may be “feasible,” Hume said they are proving far more difficult politically, especially with the death toll of U.S. service members continuing to rise. At least 17 have now been killed in the conflict that Trump launched at the end of February.

“So, I think the president’s in kind of a tough spot here in that sense,” said Hume. “And he promised to keep us out of endless wars or unsatisfactory wars, and now he’s in one, and it’s not at all clear how it’s gonna end.”

“So, he’s vulnerable on this point, and in political terms, he does need to get this over with,” he added. “But what he may need is time, and he doesn’t have a lot of time.”
