Former Texas A&M star Le'Veon Moss was arrested in Baton Rouge, La. on Monday, according to a report from KBTX-TV in Bryan, Texas.
Moss' two-year-old son accidentally shot himself with an unsecured firearm, according to an arrest affidavit cited in the report. Police arrived at a Baton Rouge hospital early Monday afternoon when Moss' child arrived with a gunshot wound. Moss and his girlfriend told police the incident happened at their apartment. The health status of Moss' child has not yet been made public.
Moss told officers that he had placed a loaded gun underneath a pillow in his bedroom and his child found the weapon and accidentally fired it.
The affidavit obtained by KBTX-TV said that "due to Moss' negligence, a child under the age of seventeen suffered unjustifiable pain." He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one felony count of cruelty to juveniles, with bond set at $25,000.
As of Wednesday evening, online records searches show Moss is still in police custody.
Moss was a star running back for the Aggies from 2022-25. In his four-year career at A&M, he compiled 1,767 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns in 32 games and was an All-SEC selection in 2024. After knee and ankle injuries marred the latter portion of his career with the Aggies, he went unselected in the 2026 NFL draft and signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent.
He retired from football just four days after signing with Miami.
