Dante Dowdell, a former Wildcat, has been reportedly hospitalized due to an ATV accident.

Running back Dante Dowdell, who played for Kentucky during his junior season after respective stints with Oregon and Nebraska, has reportedly been hospitalized with serious injuries in Atlanta. According to Georgia head coach Kirby Smart (per ESPN), Dowdell is was involved in an ATV accident.

Dowdell is currently working towards his senior debut with the Bulldogs after making an inter-SEC leap in the transfer portal this offseason. Prior to the injury, he was expected to play a big role in Georgia's backfield, taking on a chunk of touches as the Bulldogs look to return to national title glory.

His current outlook is unfortunately less clear.

Smart expounded on Dowdell's injury at SEC Media Days, saying: "We don't know when his return will be. I don't know the specifics of it, to be honest with you. It was a recreational vehicle, and he had some serious injuries."

"He's out of the really tough range, but as far as his complete health and coming all the way back, I don't know what that looks like in terms of this year," Smart added. Dowdell has led a successful career up to this point, and the Big Blue Nation will be wishing him a speedy recovery.

Dowdell's Departure From Lexington

His departure from Lexington came at a time where nobody could be blamed; in the midst of the Will Stein turnover, a ton of pieces were bound to move in every direction. It was greener pastures for both parties, and of course, Georgia pulling in Dowdell is a testament to his prowess as a player.

Last season for Mark Stoops' last-ever Wildcats team, Dowdell, splitting backfield work with Seth McGowan, rushed for 560 yards and three touchdowns in the blue and white. His long of 79 yards came in the season-opener against Toledo, to the tune of raucous cheers from Kroger Field.

He was a reliable offensive presence all year that, even as Stoops' overarching struggles dominated the headlines, made positive headway for the Cats on an almost weekly basis.

"Our players have been up there to see him. It's a really tough deal," Smart added, calling Dowdell a "tremendous kid." We'll keep you updated as news with Dowdell progresses. The Bluegrass has your back, #2.
