Former ECW wrestler Paul Bykow has sadly passed away recently. Fans knew him best as The Equalizer in ECW. Details surrounding his passing remain unknown at this time. His death was first reported by PWInsider.
According to PWInsider, Bykow passed away sometime recently. The report did not reveal his cause of death. He was a New Jersey native and longtime wrestler. Bykow entered ECW in 1998 through Chris Candido and Tammy Sytch.
Paul Bykow’s ECW career and wrestling legacy
Bykow often appeared as manager Lance Wright’s bodyguard. He also joined Danny Doring’s entourage during his early run. After leaving ECW, Bykow stayed active on the independent scene. He regularly competed for several New Jersey wrestling promotions. He had also attended GCW’s Backyard Wrestling event recently.
PWInsider stated, “While there is not much in the way of details yet, PWInsider.com has learned Paul Bykow, who wrestled for the original ECW as The Equalizer and also worked the New Jersey independent scene, recently passed away.”
Independent wrestler Tony Chini also reacted to the sad news. He shared an emotional tribute on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Heartbroken. I just saw Paul a week ago. It was an honor to grow up watching him, become his friend, and even share the ring with him. Rest in peace, The Equalizer.”
