Fentanyl, meth trafficker tied to Tenderloin and Oakland sentenced to 16 years

A 30-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of trafficking fentanyl and meth in San Francisco and Oakland, federal prosecutors said Monday.

U.S. District Judge Jon. S Tigar on Friday sentenced Maxfer Palma to 192 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California.

A jury convicted Palma in March of possessing meth and fentanyl with intent to distribute, possessing meth in a home where children were present and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. 

Prosecutors said Oakland police found distribution-level quantities of both drugs - more than 2 kilos of meth and more than 200 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl - along with a gun and ammunition while raiding his home in April 2023. Several children were inside the Foothill Boulevard residence at the time, including two who appeared to be younger than 10, authorities said.

Police searched the home after Palma was identified as a suspect in a violent home invasion in East Oakland in which masked intruders allegedly forced their way into a residence and pistol-whipped two people. It's unclear if he was charged in that home invasion case.

Evidence recovered from Palma's phone and social media accounts showed that he had sold drugs in the Tenderloin and in East Oakland for at least seven months before his arrest, prosecutors said.
