Two men were taken into custody after a fight over an Apple Watch outside a Burger King in Tennessee.
Dale Townes, 25, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a felony. Trevor Young, 30, was charged with aggravated assault and accessory after the fact.
Memphis police officers responded to a shooting call at a Burger King on Poplar Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. on July 14 and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers spoke with the victim’s son, who allegedly said Townes and Young arrived at the fast-food chain in a white pickup truck and confronted him in the parking lot about stealing an Apple Watch. He said the two men began fighting him, according to a Memphis Police Department press release.

The son ran inside the Burger King to get his father, who went outside to intervene, per police. A witness told police that the suspects began to “aggressively assault the son” and the father, and “then punched one of the suspects causing him to fall.”
According to police, Townes then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the father at close range. Young allegedly stopped Townes from firing another round, police said.
Townes and Young then fled the scene in the pickup truck. Both men were detained soon after in the 1700 block of LaRose Street in the Airways Precinct area.
Two guns were found inside the vehicle, according to police.
“Officers confirmed the suspects had prior employment history with the son,” the news release states. “The motive for the assault appeared to be the suspects' belief that the son had stolen an Apple Watch from them.”
The father was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He was later listed in non-critical condition.
