Adidas have released a cheaper model of jersey for Premier League teams, but fans aren’t too happy about the quality.
In a report by Footy Headlines, Adidas have released the ‘Takedown’ edition of certain Premier League kits, like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool, alongside their fan and authentic versions, on Asian retail sites.
The jerseys ‘offer a simplified take on the clubs’ primary home shirts’, featuring basic cuts, materials and printed logos, with the website summing up that ‘they are basically polyester t-shirts.’
With the rise in popularity of fake football jerseys, it looks like Adidas are trying to make a more affordable kit so they can still get the money from fans who don’t want to spend upwards of €150 for authentic jerseys.
However, with how basic and poor quality the images look, fans aren’t impressed, even if they are only the equivalent of $20 in Asia at the moment. Many of them took to X to voice their displeasure.
‘Looks like something off of TikTok Shop’, one user posted. ‘Why don’t they just make the kits cheaper???’, another queried.
Some felt that the jerseys looked completely different to the authentic one they are trying to replicate.
‘The Liverpool one is OK. But the Arsenal one doesn’t even look like it’s a copy of the real one at all’, one posted.
‘Those differences are enough that it should qualify as a whole different season’s kit. Different shades of red, completely different design… disgusting really’, said another.
‘Surely if manufacturers need to release 3 versions of a shirt, just lower the price. Robbing fans blind every season’, one user reasonably said.
And lastly, one user summed up the whole fan base’s opinion on them: ‘That’s not a simplified version, that’s pure trash. They look like a totally different jersey, not like a simple version.’
