An Ethiopian migrant accused of murdering three people over a parking row has told detectives he “hated the American system”.

Tsegaab Binessu was arrested in Virginia, Minnesota on Monday after allegedly fatally shooting Nansi Fuentes Zambrano, 25, Dena Silcox, 56, and Adam Wilwerding, 43, in St Paul.

According to a criminal complaint, the Ethiopian had become embroiled in an argument with the group - who worked at his apartment complex - over his $65 (£48.60) per month parking garage contract.

Following his arrest, Mr Binessu “complained about and said he hated the American system” and blamed the country for destroying his family life, the complaint noted.

The migrant is said to have told police that he has unsuccessfully tried to bring his wife and children over from Ethiopia for several years after obtaining a US passport and Social Security card.

He allegedly told detectives the strict immigration process had led to the end of his marriage and separation from his children.

The criminal complaint notes that he claimed to have left his job as a truck driver because of stress caused by the process.

It also said that Mr Binessu said “his apartment management repeatedly blamed issues on ‘the system’ instead of helping him."

“Binessu believes he was treated unfairly because he is black and an immigrant," officers wrote.

The suspected triple murderer is believed to have lived in the apartment complex for eight years, however, it is unknown when he entered the US.

The row allegedly erupted after Mr Binessu called the leasing office on Monday and informed workers he wished to cancel his monthly parking contract because he wanted to join the Navy.

However, a female staffer is said to have told him he would be unable to cancel the agreement - causing him to become enraged, the complaint said.

The Ethiopian migrant then allegedly came into the leasing office and executed three workers present.

Ms Silcox is said to have screamed "no, no, no" before being shot six times in rapid succession.

Mr Wilwerding, who worked at the apartment complex as a community manager, is also believed to have been shot six times.

Ms Zambrano was allegedly shot in the head as she tried to escape through a window in the back of the office.

In total, detectives have recovered 21 bullet shell casings.

A vigil was held on Wednesday by locals, who lay flowers to remember the three killed in the tragedy.

Mr Binessu has been charged with second-degree murder and appeared in court on Wednesday.

If convicted, the Ethiopian migrant faces up to 40 years in prison for each murder.
