ESPN is cutting ties with prominent NFL analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark, according to a report by The Athletic.
Clark had been with the network for more than a decade, and rose to prominence of a multitude of their programming. He made regular appearances on “NFL Live” and their Monday Night Football pregame coverage.
ESPN will host the Super Bowl on the network this season, and Clark would likely have factored into those plans. According to Marchand, Clark’s departure is the first of many who will be let go from ESPN.
Marchand adds that Clark was part of Monday’s edition of ‘NFL Live’ and the former NFL safety found out about his dismissal in the middle of the program.
Clark had a contentious contract negotiation with ESPN in 2024, and he reportedly was being paid over $2 million per year.
A face in sports media after his retirement from the NFL, Clark hosts The Pivot Podcast along with former NFL running back Fred Taylor and linebacker Channing Crowder. That channel has grown into one of the more popular sports podcasts with long-form sit-down interviews being conducted with athletes.
Clark played eight total seasons for the Steelers alongside Troy Polamalu. He had 12 interceptions and 667 total tackles over his career with the Steelers. Over those years, he was a Pro Bowler in 2011 and won Super Bowl XLIII with the team.
