There’s one less pizzeria in Allegheny County now.
Il Forno Pizza in Etna announce on its website that it has “closed indefinitely.”
“We appreciate the support over the past 9 months,” the message says. “Due to mitigating circumstances we have made the difficult decision to cease operations and close. Again we appreciate the support, Thank you!”
The restaurant did not explain what the exact mitigating circumstances were or if it planned to open in the future. TribLive reported that the pizzeria had announced it planned to temporary close on July 3.
The location had previously housed Amato’s Pizza, which had been in business for 70 years before closing in 2022, TribLive said.
Two other pizzerias had taken up that space prior to Il Forno — Pie Hole Pizza and Etna Slice House — bud didn’t last long.
Commenters on Facebook were shared their sorrows upon hearing the news of the closure.
“That’s a shame. Their pizza was top notch!!” one person wrote.
“Why does nothing last there since Amato’s left?” another asked.
“This just plain old sucks,” a third person put it rather succinctly.
