ESPN unveiled its 2026 preview for the Tennessee Vols and it included an incredibly bad mistakes.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly unveiled his 2026 SEC preview on Monday and it’s full of great information and analysis, but it also includes an inexcusable mistake about the Tennessee Vols.
While discussing the defensive side of the ball for the Vols, Connelly wrote that Penn State transfer addition Chaz Coleman will need to be a “hit” for Tennessee.
“Up front, transfer ends Chaz Coleman (Penn State) and Jordan Norman (Tulane) and tackle Xavier Gilliam (Penn State) will need to become hits,” wrote Connelly.
Vols fans, of course, know that Coleman is no longer part of the football program. He was officially medically disqualified in late June. Coleman, in fact, hadn’t been with the program since early in spring practice.
This was one of the biggest stories in college football this spring and summer. ESPN even reported on it. I know Connelly is covering a lot of teams and players with his preview, but how does that get missed? Unsurprisingly, it has some fans wondering what else got missed.
That’s a mistake that ESPN just can’t make. It’s not like this is a third-string pass rusher who may not even see a snap in conference play this season. Coleman was one of the highest profile transfers of the offseason.
It’s a tough look for ESPN. We all make mistakes, but that one is inexcusable and unexplainable.
