The Aggies return quarterback Marcel Reed, running back Rueben Owens II, and enough proven talent to make a serious push in the SEC, despite some roster turnover along the offensive line and on the defensive side of the ball. To get a different perspective on what this Texas A&M team could accomplish, I decided to run an AI simulation using Grok (Twitter’s AI) to predict the full 2026 season for the Aggies.
The results were fascinating, and some of the projections line up with what I would expect. Others left me with some questions.
How Grok sees the 2026 Aggies
Grok paints a picture of a Texas A&M team that thrives in close games and proves its toughness on the road. The simulation projects a 10-2 overall record with a 7-2 mark in SEC play, which would place the Aggies near the top of the conference standings behind programs like Georgia, Texas, or Ole Miss.
The two losses come at LSU (30-27) and at Alabama (34-20). Both feel reasonable given the difficulty of those road environments. The LSU loss is described as a heartbreaker where a late defensive lapse costs the Aggies despite Reed accounting for three touchdowns. The Alabama loss comes against a talented Crimson Tide squad where the home atmosphere proves too much.
What stands out is the projected ability to win one-score games. Grok has Texas A&M winning at Missouri (28-25), at South Carolina (30-23), against Tennessee (36-29), at Oklahoma (27-24), and in an epic Thanksgiving showdown against Texas (31-28) at Kyle Field. That is an impressive stretch of close victories, and if I have a reservation about this simulation, it is that winning five games decided by a single score feels optimistic.
That kind of clutch consistency is difficult to sustain over a full season.
Marcel Reed’s Heisman campaign and statistical leaders
Grok projects Reed as a legitimate Heisman contender, and I don’t disagree with the premise if he puts up the numbers they project. The simulation has him throwing for 3,400 yards and 32 touchdowns against nine interceptions while adding 750 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground. That dual-threat production would make him one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the country.
Owens is projected to have a true breakout season with 1,450 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns as the workhorse back in the room. On the receiving end, transfer Isaiah Horton leads the way with 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Ashton Bethel-Roman adds 850 yards and eight scores.
One notable omission from the statistical breakdown is transfer Mario Craver, who is mentioned in the roster overview but disappears from the production projections. That leads me to believe Grok is predicting some sort of injury for Craver, though there is no intel to support that.
The projected playoff run
With a 10-2 record and quality wins across the SEC, Grok projects Texas A&M as a top-eight seed in the College Football Playoff. The Aggies win their first-round matchup dominantly against a lower-seeded opponent and then advance through the quarterfinals before falling to Texas in the semifinals, 35-31. It would be a heartbreaking end but a proud run that validates the direction of Elko’s program.
My takeaway
I have my own reservations about some of these projections. Winning that many close games is difficult to replicate, and I have my questions about whether the defense can hold up in those late-game moments consistently enough to pull it off. The schedule is a gauntlet with five true road tests against quality SEC opponents.
That said, the overall arc of this simulation feels reasonable.
This is a team with a legitimate Heisman-caliber quarterback, a strong running game, and enough pieces to compete at the top of the SEC. If Reed takes the step Grok expects, 10 wins and a playoff berth are very real possibilities for Texas A&M in 2026. Whether the Aggies can get over the hump in the semifinal round is another question entirely.
