What a bounce-back game for the Cubs!
It’s not often that we’ve gotten stress-free wins from this particular Cubs team, but this was definitely one of them, and an extremely fun one at that. After losing in frustrating fashion last night, the Cubs put a beating on the Tigers, scoring 10 or more runs for the second time in the last three games.
David Peterson was spectacular tonight in his fourth start with the Cubs, this one easily his best. Peterson threw 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk. If you erase his one bad start against the Cardinals, Peterson has allowed just three runs across 17.1 innings of work. Tonight was not only the first time Peterson has gone six or more innings in an outing this season, but it was also his first quality start of the year.
The offense blew things open in the first inning, scoring six runs against Tigers starter Framber Valdez, who didn’t even record three outs before getting taken out by A.J. Hinch. The first six batters reached base for the Cubs, with 12 hitters coming to the plate in just that half-inning.
Pete Crow-Armstrong was, once again, the big hitter for the Cubs, reaching base all five times that he came to the plate. Crow-Armstrong led off the game with a triple, proceeding to drive in a run with an RBI walk later that inning. He would later add on an RBI single and two more walks, capping off an incredible day at the plate.
Michael Conforto joined in on the fun in the fifth inning, delivering yet another pinch-hit home run, raising his wRC+ to 125 on the season. He’s easily become one of the best signings of the offseason, not only by the Cubs, but in the entire league.

Peterson recorded not only his best start in a Cubs uniform tonight, but his best start of the season!
PCA would have also been a worthy recipient of this award, but we talk about him enough around here. It’s time to spread the love! He did make yet another jaw-dropping catch, which I’d be crazy to not mention. His incredible defensive plays are a nightly occurrence, and something that we should not take for granted.
