Pataky shared her story on Instagram, revealing that she and her kids ultimately ended up celebrating like millions of Spanish fans in New York who didn't have tickets to one of the world's most expensive sporting events. She and her kids ended up in Times Square, watching the developments on the location's emblematic big screens.

"I had tickets for the Spain vs Argentina final, a dream to see it with my kids. On my way there from Costa Rica to New York, our flight was diverted to Philadelphia, and we were stuck on the plane for five hours," she wrote in the post's caption. "We didn't make it to the final and had to watch the game from the plane, crying because we were so close to watching our country win."

The World Cup final took place at the New York/New Jersey stadium, also known as MetLife. Due to the high volume of guests, event organizers requested people to arrive at least an hour and a half before the start of the match, allowing guests to account for traffic and for the slow process of entering the stadium.

Pataky's sadness was shared by her kids

"It had been a while since I had cried with my kids," Pataky continued, refering to India, Sasha, and Trista, the kids she shares with Chris Hemsworth

"Only my cousin was able to make it from Australia. He watched the game with five empty seats next to him, but at least he was joined by millions of Spain supporters. We were left with going to Times Square and showing my kids the excitement that all Spaniards were there."
