Rosalía’s World Cup celebrations have taken an unexpected turn. After openly supporting Spain throughout the tournament, the singer faced backlash from Argentine fans over a social media repost that many viewed as a jab at their national team.
As criticism spread online, Rosalía deleted the post and issued a brief apology, explaining that she had shared the video without reading its caption or understanding the message behind it.
The Video That Sparked the Backlash
The controversy began when Rosalía reposted a video originally shared by influencer Mia Khalifa. The clip showed Khalifa standing on a balcony in New York and celebrating Spain’s victory.
“What life sounds like now that the Pearls have been defeated,” Khalifa wrote, with Rosalía’s song “La Perla” playing in the background. The track includes lyrics that translate to "the local disappointment, the national heartbreaker, an emotional terrorist, and the biggest disaster in the world.”
Rosalía reposted the video, and fans reacted almost immediately. Many interpreted the clip as a jab at Argentina’s national team, setting off a wave of anger directed at the singer.
She deleted the post shortly afterward, but the damage had already been done. The backlash continued to grow, and disappointed fans began calling on her to address the situation.

As criticism mounted, Rosalía broke her silence on social media, the same platform where the controversy had taken hold.
In a brief message to her followers, she acknowledged her mistake and apologized. She explained that she had reposted the clip because she heard her song playing in the background and had not paid attention to the caption or the broader context.
“I hit share because ‘La Perla’ was playing, and I didn’t even read the caption. My bad. Sorry,” the Catalan singer wrote.
She paired the message with an image of the Argentine flag, a gesture that appeared intended to show support for the team that reached the World Cup final and came close to taking the title.
Her Passion for Soccer
Rosalía has long made her enthusiasm for soccer clear. During the tournament, she attended Spain’s round-of-32 match against Austria at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
She was joined by a group of celebrities and soccer stars, including Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Alexia Putellas, Míchel Salgado, Stella Banderas, Carles Puyol, and Fernando Hierro.
With a Spanish national team scarf wrapped around her head, Rosalía became part of the spectacle in the stands, dancing to her own hit “Despechá” each time Spain scored.
