Elon Musk to use Grok Imagine to make historically accurate film of The Odyssey

Days after Christopher Nolan’s star-studded film “The Odyssey” hit theaters, Elon Musk took to his platform X to say he plans to make his own version of the ancient Greek epic.

‘Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of ‘The Odyssey’ that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” the trillionaire explained.

Homer’s classic is a work of fiction, so it’s unclear what he means by being “historically accurate.”

He said that in response to a post by the Heavy Pulp Media account, which made an AI video on the ancient tale using Musk’s Grok Imagine.

“Dialogue scene from Homer’s ‘Odyssey’ built on Grok Imagine. Thread on how this was built below,” the original post said.

The brand is known to make an array of AI-assisted videos.

On Tuesday, an X user said he wants the Tesla CEO to “give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an ‘Odyssey’ adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons, and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.”

“Down,” Musk responded.

Musk has long been a critic of Nolan’s film, even before it hit theaters.

In February, he slammed the decision to have Lupita Nyong’o play Helen of Troy.

He responded to an X user who claimed that Nolan “goes directly against what was written thousands of years ago.”

The poem itself, which dates roughly between 725–675 BCE, described the mythical female as blonde-haired and fair-skinned. Greek mythology also states that she was hatched from an egg, further driving home the point that this character is fictional.

In the meantime, Musk agreed with this X user, saying, “Christopher Nolan has lost his integrity.”

He also slammed a tweet about the casting of trans actor Elliot Page as Achilles, calling the move “One of the dumbest and most twisted things I’ve ever heard.” However, Page actually plays the Greek soldier Sinon.

Musk has often taken to the platform to make transphobic remarks. He is currently estranged from his 22-year-old trans daughter Vivian Wilson.

Besides casting, the Nolan has been slammed for using modern dialogue and American accents.

Nolan said the backlash “comes with the territory” in an interview with The Telegraph.

“But look, these conversations that happen before people see the film — they’re always irrelevant, because no one having them knows what the film actually is yet,” he explained.

He compared the criticisms to when he created “The Dark Knight” trilogy.

“I spent 10 years of my life dealing with Batman,” he said. “When I came on to ‘Batman Begins,’ writers and artists had been working on this beloved character for almost 65 years, and a lot of freighted thoughts were out there about what he represents. And what I learnt over my time on that trilogy is you can’t worry about any of that at all. What you have to do is honour the original text by interpreting it in the strongest way you personally can.”

“The Odyssey” currently has a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes and dominated the box office during its opening weekend. It grossed $123.5 million domestically and $264.1 million globally.
