After starting his college career as a quarterback at Texas A&M, Eagles rookie Eli Stowers discusses his transition to tight end. The Philadelphia Eagles seem to have made a remarkable selection in the draft, with rookie tight end Stowers quickly becoming one of the most exciting assets on the roster. Much of the pre-draft conversation centered around his shift from a college quarterback, where he played before becoming a pass-catching specialist. However, Stowers is proving to be more than just a project. ESPN recently featured him as a legitimate “draft steal,” highlighting his impressive performance during minicamp as a valuable depth weapon.
In a recent media session, Stowers candidly spoke about the challenges of moving from play-calling to blocking. “Transitioning from quarterback to blocking is a whole new experience,” Stowers acknowledged. “Quarterbacks are never really asked to block, so you have to learn the technique. It’s not necessarily a hurdle, but mastering the technique is essential—it requires plenty of reps. On top of that, it’s about having the determination to want to block. I have that drive, and I aim to be the best blocker I can be.”
Stowers’ athleticism sets him apart as a unique “move” tight end, providing a necessary spark for the Eagles’ receiving corps, which is seeking consistent playmaking. Following an impressive final season at Vanderbilt, where he recorded 62 receptions for 769 yards and won the Mackey Award, Stowers is clearly bringing that production to the professional level.

While he may not become an every-down starter right away, he is positioning himself to be a significant offensive weapon by 2026. His progression suggests he is the likely successor to Dallas Goedert, with expectations that he will take over the starting role by 2027. Alongside standout Michael Carter II, Stowers is quickly becoming a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s future offensive success.
