It isn't an emergency by any means, nor does it give the Philadelphia Eagles cause to sound the alarm. It is, however, an interesting discussion. Entering Year 3 of his NFL journey, Quinyon Mitchell has yet to snag an interception in 32 career regular-season games. As interesting as that is, it's only part of the discussion. Two seasons in, when the playoffs come, it's almost as if someone flips a switch and channels his inner Asante Samuel.
In five career playoff games, Mitchell has already intercepted four passes. Two came during Philadelphia's run to Super Bowl glory at the end of the 2024 season. He led all defenders during that postseason. Then, for an encore, he followed that performance with two more interceptions in a single game during the Eagles' Wild Card victory this past January.
So, yes, it's fair to wonder when that first regular-season interception will arrive. The more important takeaway, however, is that no one questions whether it eventually will. The votes have already been cast, and even if they hadn't been, Mitchell has passed the eyeball test. Drafted 22nd overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors during his first season. One year later, he added Pro Bowl recognition and First-Team All-Pro honors to an already impressive resume.
That's not the profile of a player searching for his footing. That's the resume of one of the NFL's premier cornerbacks. The interceptions haven't shown up during the regular season yet. In the meantime, the numbers continue speaking for themselves.
Mitchell allowed opposing quarterbacks to post just a 62.4 passer rating when targeting him last season, routinely erasing one side of the field and forcing offenses to look elsewhere. Through his first two regular seasons, he has also broken up 29 passes while recording 91 tackles, proving his impact extends well beyond the turnover column.
Interceptions often come in bunches, and they're sometimes as much about opportunity as ability. Elite cornerbacks aren't always thrown at enough to produce gaudy takeaway numbers. Mitchell's postseason production already proves he has the instincts and ball skills to capitalize when those opportunities arise.
The regular-season interceptions will come. Until then, Eagles fans shouldn't lose sight of the bigger picture. Quinyon Mitchell has already established himself as one of the NFL's elite cornerbacks, and he's worth the price of admission every time he steps onto the field.
