A Raleigh tow truck driver with three prior driving while impaired (DWI) convictions has been charged after a crashkilled a 35-year-old man and injured five others on July 17. According to authorities, Allan Guerrero, 39, owner of 6G Towing and Recovery, was arrested around 3 a.m. following the crash at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road.
According to the News & Observer, despite court orders to surrender and destroy Guerrero’s license after his most recent DWI conviction in May 2025, and despite a pending charge for driving with a revoked license from September 2025, Guerrero continued to operate his tow truck.
Incident Details
Police said Guerrero made an illegal U-turn at a red light while driving a tow truck and collided with two motorcycles and a car.
According to WRAL, Chandler Hodge, 35, and his cousin Larry Pulley were riding the motorcycle. While Hodge died in the crash on his birthday, Pulley suffered a head injury and kidney damage. Two people in the car who suffered life-threatening injuries are being treated at the hospital. The status of a fourth injured person was not immediately known.
According to police, Guerrero, who was behind the wheel of the tow truck when the crash happened, was intoxicated and disruptive at the time.
Timeline of DWI Charges
This marks Guerrero’s fourth DWI charge. His driving record includes:
- August 6, 2011: Arrested for DWI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.10; convicted in 2012.
- October 14, 2016: Arrested for DWI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14; convicted in July 2018 and sentenced to six months in jail, served concurrently with a separate three-year federal sentence for illegally selling guns in New York.
- April 8, 2024: Arrested for DWI with a blood alcohol concentration greater than 0.15; convicted in May 2025. The court ordered him to surrender his driver’s license and install an ignition interlock device. Court records show no indication his license was reinstated.
Guerrero started 6G Towing and Recovery in September 2024, after his third DWI arrest but before his conviction on that charge. He has been cited for driving without a license at least six times since 2010, according to court records. North Carolina’s legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08.
Charges
Guerrero is charged with aggravated felony death by vehicle, three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, resisting a public officer, and being intoxicated and disruptive. He also received traffic citations for failing to stop at a red light and for unsafe movement, resulting in a crash that caused serious injury.
Guerrero is being held at the Wake County jail on a secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 10.
