The driver of a Toyota 4Runner died Tuesday after colliding with a box truck on Highway 92 in Hayward, California Highway Patrol said.
The Toyota 4Runner was towing a U-Haul trailer and going westbound on the highway, CHP Officer Nicole Mendibil said. Department logs show that the 4Runner was just east of Industrial Boulevard on the approach to the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge when it collided with a 30-foot box truck around 3:54 p.m.
The driver of the 4Runner was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle, Mendibil said. They were pronounced dead at Sutter Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley just before 4:30 p.m.
No identifying information about either driver was immediately available Tuesday evening.
Two lanes of Highway 92 were still closed due to the crash by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
