Disney fans have a date to mark on their calendars.
Walt Disney World announced that The Magic of Disney Animation, an all-new attraction celebrating the stories and artistry behind Walt Disney Animation Studios, will officially open September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando.
Located inside a building inspired by the iconic Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California, the new experience is designed to make guests feel as though they’ve stepped inside the legendary animation studio itself. Inspired by the Emmy Award-winning short film Once Upon A Studio, the attraction blends immersive environments, hands-on activities, character encounters, and interactive storytelling that invite visitors of all ages to experience the magic behind Disney animation.
The attraction is made up of several experiences, each highlighting a different aspect of the animation process.
Families can explore Drawn to Wonderland, an indoor playground inspired by Disney legend Mary Blair’s original Alice in Wonderland concept art. Nearby, Off the Page! celebrates the animation process through themed character encounters featuring favorites like Mulan, Rapunzel, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Stitch, and Chip ‘n’ Dale.
One of the attraction’s biggest draws is expected to be Olaf Draws!, where the beloved snowman from Frozen welcomes guests into a drawing studio inspired by his appearance in Once Upon A Studio. Featuring a brand-new Audio-Animatronics figure of Olaf, voiced with original dialogue recorded by actor Josh Gad, the experience teaches visitors how to sketch some of Disney’s most iconic characters alongside recorded lessons from Disney Animation artists. Rotating classes will feature everyone from Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse to Genie, Moana, Stitch, Ursula, and Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
“I’m so thrilled that a whole new generation of kids can dream of becoming animators one day and can actually begin their journey right there on the studio lot,” Gad said in a statement.
A social post announcing the news had Disney fans flocking to the comments to share their excitement.
“Yaay for inspiring and bringing back real animation! No more AI! Hopefully you’ll go back to having real artist and not a have a robot teach the class,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Sounds good to me, the sooner the more magical.”
