“But man, that would be a lot to walk back,” St. James said about Larkin possibly withdrawing his trade request. “I mean, it’s been going on now for two months and, you know, the organization is upset with him for asking for a trade after they’ve paid down the chunk of the actual salary, $31 million over three years for that contract…But I just don’t know even if it’s a different GM. Steve Yzerman still works for the team. I don’t know if Dylan Larkin can walk this back.”
Larkin has five years remaining on his contract with an $8.7 AAV, and the Red Wings are not happy. The organization tried to make a push toward the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs by trading for Justin Faulk. However, it didn’t work out. Now, with a new general manager on the way, there might be no saving this situation.
