Halloween may be a few months away, but home decor fanatics are already buzzing about spooky season (we’re calling it Summerween, by the way). Believe it or not, retailers are currently stocked with everything from vintage-inspired Halloween decorations to viral giant skeletons to deck out your home for the season.
But before you rush to click “add to cart,” pros say there’s one “it” color to keep in mind when shopping for Halloween decor this year: pink. We know “it” colors come and go in the home design world, but this year’s pick feels extra special for a few reasons. For one, pink has been trending in pop culture recently.
You might have spotted the hue in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette; design enthusiasts were delighted when the color popped up in both Carolyn Bessette’s and Jackie O’s homes. IKEA even made a bold move by naming Rebel Pink, a lively blush tone, its 2026 Color of the Year.
Why pink Halloween decor is trending
So, why are home decor lovers and retailers taking notice of pink Halloween finds? Interior designer Marie Cloud of Indigo Pruitt says pink has “finally shed its ‘girly’ reputation” and it’s treated as a neutral these days.
“Designers have been leaning into dustier, moodier shades of pink for a couple of years now, pairing it with black, chocolate brown, and deep greens instead of pastels,” Cloud explains. “That combination proves pink can be sophisticated and a little unexpected, not just soft.”
Beyond its visual appeal, it also feels unexpected, which is exactly what you want in any Halloween-ready home. “The holiday is built on contrast, so pairing a color people associate with softness against something spooky creates exactly the kind of tension that makes a room interesting,” Cloud shares.
How to use pink in your Halloween decor

✔️ Focus on accent pieces. Rather than a “full swap,” Cloud says it’s best to be a little more strategic and decorate with pink accessories. “One statement piece, a bucket, a throw, a set of pillows, does the job,” Cloud says. “If everything in the room turns pink, it stops reading as Halloween and starts reading as a different holiday entirely.”
✔️ Layer spooky and whimsical finds. “Paint pumpkins and skeletons, and use colored glass on your tables,” says Autumn Pochiro of Autumn Dawn Design. “Add playful touches, like putting fake eyes in vases filled with pink flowers. Mix scary and whimsical elements for a look that’s both spooky and stylish.”
✔️ Embrace some drama. This trend calls for going bold. “If every piece is pastel and sweet, you lose the spooky altogether and it starts to feel like a spring or Valentine’s setup instead. Keep at least one darker or textured element in the mix so the room still says Halloween,” Cloud suggests.
✔️ Choose your pink hues wisely. “Avoid using only powder pink or sticking to just one shade, since that can make your decor look more like a nursery,” Pochiro says.
✔️ Pair pink with darker hues. Colors, like black and deep plum, prevent pink from “feeling too saccharine,” Cloud says. There’s another easy way to introduce some contrast: “For something unexpected, a warm brass or gold accent against the pink reads rich rather than cutesy,” Cloud says.
