Well this is interesting. Taysom Hill hasn't said anything publicly about retirement, and even if his time with the New Orleans Saints may be over after he listed his Metairie home for sale, that doesn't mean he's finished playing football. And now Colorado's biggest newspaper predicts he'll end up with Sean Payton's Denver Broncos.
The Denver Post's Luca Evans and Parker Gabriel shared a dozen predictions for the Broncos' 2026 season, and while they cautioned that "We are in no way advocating for these to come true or rooting for these predictions to take place. These are solely opinions and should be viewed as such," it's worth keeping an eye out when Hill's name is linked to his old coach. Here's what Evans had to say about a possible reunion:
Payton loves his guys. Hill, a quarterback-turned-something who played a key part in Payton’s offenses late in his time in New Orleans, is one of his guys. He is also currently unsigned, and his NFL career might be over at 35 years old after a season averaging 3.3 yards per offensive touch with the Saints.
At least one interesting name seems to find its way into Payton’s locker room every season with depth necessities, though. Remember Marcedes Lewis last year? I have no idea what role Hill would play, or if he’d even get a snap in 2026. I’m just thinking it’ll happen.
Sure, there are some hurdles to deal with. For one thing, Payton isn't calling plays in 2026 after handing the keys to his young offensive coordinator Davis Webb. Hill may not fit the plays Webb wants to run just because Payton has an affinity for him. For another, Hill turns 36 in August and is coming off his least-productive season, having visibly lost a step to his season-ending knee injury in 2025. There just isn't much tread left on his tires.
But what we do know? Hill's contract with the Saints has run out, meaning the team will not receive any form of compensation if he does keep his career going elsewhere. Should he choose to lace up his cleats again, it very well might be in Denver. Maybe it would happen on the Buffalo Bills under head coach Joe Brady, who he also has a history with. It just doesn't seem like he'll be returning to the Saints. That might be for the best after finishing his final 2025 home game on a high note.
