- De-extinction startup Colossal Biosciences is discussing raising additional funds that would value the company at $20B or more, Axios reported.
- Colossal, which has already worked on bringing back the dire wolf by creating genetically engineered gray wolves, is looking to raise funds at more than twice its valuation from 2025, the news outlet added, citing sources. It is not yet known who the lead investor would be on the new financing round, but the new round could value the company between $20B and $30B. Colossal has generated some revenue, according to the news outlet.
- Aside from the dire wolf, Colossal is working on projects (using CRISPR gene editing) to bring back the woolly mammoth, the dodo, the South Island flightless bird Moa, the bluebuck, and the thylacine, commonly known as the Tasmanian devil.
- Colossal CEO Ben Lamm said in an interview with Rolling Stone in May that an artificial womb for the mammals could be created as soon as this year.
- Colossal Biosciences did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
