CLEVELAND, Ohio – More than $1.4 million could soon be invested in road projects and senior center improvements across Cuyahoga County through a special competitive grant program.
County Council unanimously approved $1,457,826 in awards Tuesday through the FY2026 Special Competitive Municipal Community Development Block Grant Program.
A total of 21 communities submitted applications for funding, but only eight projects were selected for awards. The approved projects include five road improvement initiatives and three projects aimed at improving accessibility and safety at senior centers.
Here’s where money is going in your community:
- Bedford Heights — $200,000 for the Aurora Road (State Route 43) Improvement Project
- Berea — $200,000 for the Thacker Street Road Reconstruction Project
- Brooklyn — $167,000 for the Senior Center Accessibility & Safety Improvement Project
- Maple Heights — $197,707 for the Raymond Street Resurfacing Project
- Parma Heights — $200,000 for the Beverly Drive Street Rehabilitation & Resurfacing Project
- Richmond Heights — $167,000 for the Senior Center Safe Access Project
- Shaker Heights — $200,000 for the Hampstead Avenue Street Improvement Project
- Warrensville Heights — $126,119 for the Senior Center Upgrades & Accessibility Project
County officials said projects were evaluated based on the project summary, community impact and implementation plan. Communities whose applications were not selected will receive assistance to strengthen future submissions and better describe project goals and benefits.
Officials said the special competitive funding round was designed to help communities complete high-priority projects more quickly by providing additional funding beyond typical annual grant allocations.
The county is currently reviewing applications from its regular community grants programs and plans to announce more awards by the end of the year.
