(NewsNation) — A fan attending a Chicago Cubs game was caught on video appearing to slap another spectator on the back of the head after confronting him for remaining seated during the national anthem.
The incident occurred before Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field, where video shows an older man approaching a younger fan seated during “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
The older man can be heard repeatedly telling the younger fan to stand, saying, “Get up,” as the younger fan looks back but remains seated. The older man then leans in and appears to say something near the younger fan’s ear before reaching forward and hitting the back of his head.
The younger man stands up after the contact and remains standing for the rest of the anthem.
“Thank you so much, young man,” the older man says afterward, while other people in nearby rows watch the interaction.
The Chicago Police Department told NewsNation there were “no calls of service or case reports for that incident.”
NewsNation has reached out to the Chicago Cubs for comment.
