If you bought a Panasonic toaster oven in the last couple of years, you may want to take note of this recent recall. On July 16, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of about 11,480 Panasonic Electric Toaster Ovens in the U.S., along with roughly 2,184 more sold in Canada, due to a power cord defect. Here's what you need to know and what to do if you have one in your kitchen right now.
What is being recalled?
This recall covers all Panasonic Electric Toaster Ovens with model number NB-G200, according to the CPSC notice. They were manufactured by Panasonic Manufacturing (Xiamen) Co., Ltd, in Xiamen, China, and imported by Panasonic Corporation of North America, based in Newark, NJ.
The ovens are easily identifiable by their look, too, as they are stainless steel, with the temperature knob located on the bottom and the Panasonic brand name printed on the front (see above). The ovens come with six preset cooking menus, a digital timer that runs up to 25 minutes, and temperature settings ranging from 250°F to 500°F. You can find the model number on the nameplate label on the back of the unit as well.
Why are these toaster ovens being recalled?
According to the CPSC, the power cord's insulation on the toaster ovens could be compromised as the protective fiberglass sleeve doesn't adequately cover it, which creates a risk of electric shock or fire. So far, Panasonic reported that it has received four reports of tripped circuit breakers or outlets from customers, and one report of a unit that stopped working. So far, no fires or injuries have been reported.
Where were the toaster ovens sold?
The ovens were sold online at Amazon.com, Costco.com, Panasonic.com, and other retailers nationwide between October 2024 and April 2026. The toaster ovens retailed for about $170.
What should I do if I have one of these toaster ovens?
The CPSC added in its recall notice that consumers who have these in their kitchen should stop using them immediately and contact Panasonic for a full refund.
