The Seattle Seahawks are less than two months away from kicking off their Super Bowl title defense. The Seahawks took the league by storm last year by dominating the regular season and coasting to the Super Bowl, where they blew out the New England Patriots.
Head coach Mike Macdonald came to embody the culture of Seattle last season, and recently, star wide receiver Cooper Kupp stopped by ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show and spoke on the head coach’s impact on the team.
“I got to Seattle and it was just we’re gonna play harder than you.. We’re going to outcompete you and we’re gonna play more physical than you,” said Kupp, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter. “…Mike Macdonald is a big believer in ones on ones during training camp.. Let’s compete over and over again.. We’re seeing the best defense in the league on a daily basis.”

The Seahawks are currently gearing up to start training camp later this week, and players can likely expect more of those kinds of matchups on the horizon in practice.
The Seahawks’ defense came together as a terror for opposing offenses in large part due to the way its players came together as a unit, but the team also relied heavily on elite individual play, which Macdonald evidently helped refine during practice sessions. This likely also helped the offense sharpen its skills, as they were going against elite individual defenders on a daily basis in practice throughout the season.
Now, the Seahawks will get the chance to see if they can become the rare NFL team to repeat as Super Bowl champions, with their first test coming on September 9 in a rematch against the New England Patriots.
