Colts reportedly worked out veteran safety and former Super Bowl champion

The Indianapolis Colts hosted veteran safety Jordan Whitehead for a recent workout, according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Whitehead, 29, has been fully cleared to return to football activities following surgery on his neck by surgeon Alex Vaccaro. He suffered the neck injury during a car crash early in 2025 and missed all of last season.

Along with the Colts, Whitehead also worked out with the Houston Texans and is expected to meet with more teams soon, Garafolo added.

Whitehead has ample experience playing both free safety and down in the box. Throughout his career, he's had strong ball production, which includes totaling 11 interceptions and 38 pass deflections from 2019 through 2023.

The safety room this offseason for the Colts has been reshaped this offseason and is currently quite crowded, with playing time up for grabs and the depth chart largely still undetermined.

AJ Haulcy appears to be the front-runner for the starting role next to Cam Bynum. Hunter Wohler could see snaps in defensive-back-heavy formations. Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas add experience to the room and have contributed on special teams.

Whitehead was a fourth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018 and played his first four seasons there, which included winning a Super Bowl. He then played with the New York Jets from 2022 to 2023 and returned to Tampa Bay for the 2024 season.
